CSET’s Josh A. Goldstein provided his expert insights in an article published by The New York Times that discusses the increasing use of artificial intelligence in political campaigns and the concerns it raises regarding disinformation and manipulation. Artificial Intelligence is being employed to create campaign materials, including images and messages.
Regarding the topic, Goldstein stated, “If people can’t trust their eyes and ears, they may just say, ‘Who knows?'” He added, “This could foster a move from healthy skepticism that encourages good habits (like lateral reading and searching for reliable sources) to an unhealthy skepticism that it is impossible to know what is true.”
