The Center for Security and Emerging Technology (CSET) is hiring a Survey Researcher. The Survey Researcher will lead survey design and execution in collaboration with CSET analysts (Senior Fellows, Research Fellows, Research Analysts) across CSET’s lines of research. They will sit on CSET’s data team and will work closely with data scientists, software engineers, a translation lead, and data research analysts to produce, collect, and analyze original survey data. This is a hybrid role that combines a mix of research methods and data analysis skills. Strong applicants will have experience with survey design, online survey distribution platforms (e.g., Qualtrics), as well as project management, and qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
The Survey Researcher will report to CSET’s Director of Data Science and Research and will be responsible for:
- Leading the design and execution of survey and human subjects research, including questionnaire design, sampling methodology, Institutional Review Board management, survey distribution, proper data governance procedures, and data analysis;
- Writing and contributing to CSET publications under the supervision of the Deputy Director of Data Science and in collaboration with Directors, Senior Fellows, Research Fellows, and Research Analysts;
- Supporting CSET’s lines of research through survey and human-subjects research projects, including evaluating the appropriateness and feasibility of surveys and/or interviews to address policy-relevant questions;
- Collaborating with CSET’s Data Science team to identify data requirements, determine appropriate methods for a given problem, and effectively leverage CSET data resources;
- Communicating CSET’s data resources and data-driven findings to a range of audiences, including contributing to DC briefings and events, through written and verbal outputs, including data visualizations, presentations, and reports;
- Monitoring trends and developments in AI, ML, biotechnology, and national security policy
- Contributing to CSET’s organizational development, including internal working groups, seminars, and discussions; and supporting and mentoring colleagues
- Upholding CSET’s mission, values and culture
- Additional duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree;
- 2+ years of quantitative or statistical analysis experience from coursework or professional work
- 2+ years of relevant research experience (e.g., public opinion, user experience or social science research)
- Demonstrated experience with survey design and online and/or in-person survey distribution;
- Proficiency with office productivity tools like Google Docs/Sheets, Microsoft Office, etc.
- Ability to work successfully in a highly collaborative, matrixed and multi-disciplinary environment
- Effective communication and ability to convey complex and technical topics to a general audience, both in verbal and written form, demonstrated through the development of publications and delivery of presentations;
- Motivated, enthusiastic, intellectually curious and self-driven;
- Alignment with CSET’s mission, values and culture;
- Ability to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
This position is based in the United States and offers no relocation assistance. This position is not eligible for a specialty-occupation sponsorship and, accordingly, this position requires that all applicants be legally eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship from Georgetown University.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate coursework or degree or Bachelor’s degree in an area of study involving survey research (e.g., political science, psychology);
- 1+ years leading research projects with multi-disciplinary teams from coursework or professional work
The Survey Researcher can expect to earn between $85,000 and $100,000 annually, commensurate with experience, and have access to Georgetown’s generous benefits package.
This position is designated as hybrid, which means candidates will be expected to work from CSET’s D.C. office at least 2-3 days per week.
