CSET’s Helen Toner shared her expert analysis in an article published by The Washington Post that discusses the release of new regulations in China aimed at ensuring that artificial intelligence technologies used in chatbots like ChatGPT align with the country’s ideology.
“The new rules will make companies that offer generative AI services to the public similarly responsible if anything their products create causes trouble”, said Helen Toner. She further commented, “This is a pretty significant set of responsibilities, and will make it hard for smaller companies without an existing compliance and censorship apparatus to offer services.”
