Kelly Beavan

Survey Researcher Print Bio

Kelly Beavan is CSET’s Survey Research Specialist, where she designs and leads the center’s survey and human-subjects research initiatives. Previously, she was at the University of Maryland (UMD), where she completed her doctoral work, conducted and managed experimental research in UMD’s Group Processes Lab, and taught courses in sociology and research methods. Her graduate work was supported by the U.S. Army, where she studied organizational culture and leadership using surveys, lab experiments, and in-depth interviews with thousands of military personnel across the country. Kelly also served as a graduate research associate at RAND, where she studied and developed conceptual models for how the military organizes and equips information warfare capabilities.
 
Kelly brings a unique sociological perspective to the Data Team, with a particular interest in the interface between social psychology and survey measurement. She applies her theoretical and methodological expertise to CSET’s research, helping to understand the effects of emerging technologies on human interaction and social phenomena. She holds a B.A. in sociology and survey methodology, an M.A. in sociology, and a Ph.D. in sociology from UMD, where she specialized in social psychology and demography.
