About the Internship Program
Discover Your Future at the Intersection of Technology and Policy
The Center for Security and Emerging Technology (CSET) summer internship program is a transformative 10-week experience for talented students eager to explore the intersection of technology, policy, and national security. Designed specifically for students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs), this program provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience under the guidance of leading experts in the field.
CSET is committed to diversifying the field of tech policy and national security. We actively seek to expand opportunities for underrepresented groups, ensuring our alumni find pathways into impactful roles across government, think tanks, and industry. This internship program is designed to be a launching pad providing mentorship, hands-on research experience, and real-world insights. As such, CSET’s internship is cost-free to interns, with housing and travel paid for, and interns earn a competitive hourly wage and living stipends.
What You Will Gain
As a CSET summer intern, you will:

Develop Analytical and Policy Skills: Build your skills in policy analysis and professional writing. Learn how to conduct rigorous research, analyze information, and craft policy recommendations for key stakeholders and decision-makers.
Experience Professional Growth: Participate in a curated series of workshops and training sessions designed to build your policy and research expertise. Interns receive one-on-one mentorship from experienced professionals committed to their development.
Publish and Present Your Work: By the end of the internship, you will have the opportunity to publish your work and present your findings, leaving CSET with compelling evidence of your research and analytical capabilities.
Network with Industry Leaders: Connect with thought leaders and practitioners in technology policy and national security. Attend events, roundtables, and social gatherings to build lasting professional relationships.
Immerse Yourself in DC Culture: Beyond the office, you and your fellow interns will experience Washington, D.C., through group activities and tours of the city’s landmarks.
Interns leave the program with a polished CSET research publication and the experience, skills, and networks that will help launch their career in tech policy or national security.
