Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo has been at the forefront of this transformation, having anticipated AI’s significance early on. Following President Biden’s AI Executive Order in October 2023, Commerce emerged as a pivotal authority in overseeing AI systems, despite questions about its regulatory readiness and funding constraints.
In regards to AI Executive Order, Murdick states that it “puts a tremendous burden on Commerce to do a lot of the implementation.” He added, “I don’t think the funding is anywhere connected with what is realistic.”
