CSET’s Helen Toner was recently quoted in an article published by Vox exploring the notion that intentionally slowing down the progress of artificial intelligence may be a good idea, considering the risks AI may pose in the future.

She argues that the popular narrative of an AI arms race between the US and China is flawed because such a contest implies that the winner is determined by who reaches the finish line first, but this is not the case with AI.
