CSET’s Ngor Luong provided her expert analysis in an article published by Fox Business that delves into the recently proposed restrictions on U.S. investments in China’s technology sector by the Biden administration. Prompted by President Joe Biden’s executive order, the Treasury Department is proposing rules aimed at curbing new U.S. investments in China, with a focus on sensitive tech areas like artificial intelligence (AI) and computer chips.

According to Luong, “There are concerns around U.S. technology going to the Chinese military to help it modernize, to support Beijing’s efforts to leverage technology for human rights violations, or to help China gain a first-mover advance in AI writ large.”
