CSET produces evidence-driven analysis in a variety of forms, from informative graphics to expert testimony to published reports. Our key areas of inquiry are the foundations of artificial intelligence — such as talent, data and computational power — as well as how AI can be used in national security settings. We also do research on the policy tools that can be used to shape AI's development and use, and on biotechnology.

The rapid proliferation of AI tools offers a unique opportunity to shift towards a more integrated, systems-oriented approach to policymaking. By making wise use of our policy levers, constantly evaluating their impacts, and standing ready to adjust as necessary, we can rise to the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities AI presents.
